Background

This project was for a startup named Atlas Urban Farms. The project was completed with preliminary ideas from the company.

For this project, I aimed to create a user interface for Atlas Urban Farms that allowed their users to manage the farming systems they were using. The goal was to make it so that users could set up and understand the settings of their systems.

Current Design Problems

Overall, the current issue with Atlas's interface was that the instructions for a user were not clear, leading to user confusion. There was also a lack of feedback to the user which made it hard for users to understand what the state of their systems were.

Design Processes and Methods

To begin, the brand identity and guidelines were taken into account in combination with the original interface. The first stage of the redesign focused on giving clarity to the users, which is why the new design includes photos of locations. This way, users can identify which units they are manipulating. The second phase of the redesign focused on creating clearer navigation screens for product setup. This included multipage walkthroughs that allowed the user to complete the setup step-by-step while receiving feedback. Finally, the last stage of the redesign implemented more intuitive tracking and manipulation settings for the systems. This included vertical water and nutrient tracking bars, as well as a clear device settings section.
